My first website - created it myself. My plan was to get it up for a year and then get someone to design me one. I did just that. I hired a so called designer and they created a new website "just for me". About 2 years into it, I find out they purchased a web template for $50 and charged me thousands to "customize it." It wasn't much different then the original template, so they made a ton off the fee. So now I am on my third website....I decided that I too could buy my own template and create it myself. Yes, it's not an original design, but better than the first two and the template is not something I see often. I can add what I want and how often I want without all the extra charges. I am now working with a SEO firm to optimize the site. This was a much cheaper solution, works within my budget, and getting better responces then the other sites I had. I know at some point I will need someone to handle this other than me, but for now I can update and tweak and am happy with the results.

I only use 'texting a client' if I am or they are, on the job site and have to get a quick response. I will then follow up with an e-mail at the end of the day so it is recorded. The issue with texting is record keeping, just in case something . I never text clients with personal issues.

I have stopped work on a project until they paid all past payments. If it happens once during the entire project, I just continue working on it. If it seems to be a problem of not paying every month, I would withhold the final drawings for permit until payment in full is made or I hold off on the questions/comments from the city prior to permit issue. They can't get a permit without my final work. I would say that for 95% of my clients, getting paid on in a timely manor is not a problem. The question for you is; do you continue working for them or not? Sometime you need to fire the client and find another client that respects you and the work you do.
