Background:
Now in their 12th season, the Orchard Lake Philharmonic is a 55 member adult community orchestra with members based in Novi, Farmington, Farmington Hills and West Bloomfield as well as several other cities in Wayne, Oakland, Macomb and Washtenaw counties. The orchestra has 9-12 performances per season with a variety of music from classical to pops. Performances are in the evening as well as afternoon matinee concerts for seniors who are in assisted living facilities, senior residences or for people who just do not like to drive at night.
College students must audition for the orchestra or enroll as an orchestra student at OCC or Madonna collage. All musicians may join and play for free as there are no rehearsal fees. Skill levels of the orchestra range from profession musicians, music teachers, college students, to members who played in high school as much as 30 years ago and missed playing their instrument.
The Orchard Lake Philharmonic season runs from September to May. In the summer, OLP has three sight-reading sessions of full symphonies, overtures and other pieces that have been requested. These sight-reading sessions are free and are not performances, but a two hour session of music.
OLP is a non-profit 501(c)(3) corporation. OLP’s board meets three times a year to discuss direction and events of the orchestra.
