About Us

MASSAGE HORIZONS, which is located at 36 Mechanic Street, Suite 206 in Foxborough, MA, is the Licensed Swedish, Sports and Medical Massage Therapy, Certified Life Coaching and Access Consciousness ® Practice of Douglas Turet, LMT, MMP, CLC, BP, a Licensed Massage Therapist (LMT), nationally certified Medical Massage Practitioner (MMP), Certified Life Coach (CLC) and Certified Solution Focused Coach (CSFC) Access Consciousness® Bars® Practitioner (BP), who is recognized as a Professional Level member of both the American Massage Therapy Association and International Coaching Federation.

At MASSAGE HORIZONS and its sister practice, The HELP Coach, clients and physician-referred patients receive specialized, allied health care for their muscular and neuromuscular conditions, and many of them choose to receive our proprietary "GentleDescent DEEP" Deep Tissue Massage process, which delivers full-depth, focused massage, in most cases WITHOUT PAIN OR LASTING SORENESS, either during the session or the next day.

How We Got Started

My reason for launching MASSAGE HORIZONS was (and continues to be) PAIN. You see, I don't like pain. At all. And yet, many of the massages I have received, through the years, have been absolutely excruciating! So, I was determined to prove that that kind of agony was not only unnecessary, but counterproductive. And I prove that at MASSAGE HORIZONS every day! Just imagine that, if you can: TRULY PAINLESS DEEP TISSUE & MEDICAL MASSAGE! It's not only a possibility, it's a reality that I deliver, day after day,, massage session after massage session. Why not come in and experience it for yourself?

(more) Hi Eric,  As a licensed massage therapist and medical massage practitioner, I'm not sure that my approach will be directly applicable to your situation, but perhaps you can "adapt and adopt" it, to fit your circumstances. Here in my office, I have two viewable anatomy posters; well, one's a poster and the other is a handy little pocket-sized, coil-bound flip chart. When patients or clients ask about a specific joint, soft tissue or neurological condition they've been told (or suspect) that they have, I'll give them what essentially amounts to a guided tour of their bodies, and then explain how what they've described differs from what the images before them illustrate by pulling out a white board and marker, and drawing out a detailed "variation on the theme". If more clarification is required, I'll show them how to find it on YouTube. By going through these steps with them, I'm told I come across as an expert in my field, which they appreciate (as evidenced by the calls and emails I receive from their doctors and relatives, sometimes weeks or months later). Hope that helped, Eric! All my best, Doug

I would spend more time outside the office, living and loving my life, meditating, hiking (or otherwise being out in nature), “visioneering” (dreaming of and planning for what’s next — like the non-profit I’m currently developing the formation of), or in other ways benefitting the worldaround me.... You see, during the 27-year career that came before my current one as a massage therapist, I’d devoted my entire life to my work. Now, I devote my work to my life, and I find that I’m a much happier man, as a result! I suggest you try that out, for yourself, and see if you enjoy the shifts that occur in your life as much as I am, with those in mine. So, in short, what would I do with all of that free time? I’d go and “be”, and not just “do”, endlessly. I’d go out and be the best and most joyous “me” I could possibly be, so when it came time to go back to “doing” for my business, I could give it the “all” that a rested and newly invigorated man could give, not just the “more, more and more (until mort)” that others have to offer. And as a result, myclients would get nfinitely more for their money than others could ever offer

Sadly (and happily!), I’m currently enjoying the best relationship of my life, so for the foreseeable future, chances are exceptionallygood that I won’t be attending any of your classes, but I do with you the best of everything, as you pursue them! All my best, Doug

(more) Hey Tyler, Thanks for sharing your dilemma with us. I know that I appreciate it, and hope that what I’m about to say will prove helpful to you... First and foremost, I’m curious: is this retrofitting of yours a one-shot deal, or do you have cause to reconnect with your customers/clients at regular intervals, down the road (eg. for service calls)? Whether or not that’s the case, when you arrive on-site and introduce yourself to your customer for the first time, you might consider prefacing your work with a comment, along the lines of “Thank you, Mr. & Mrs. Johnson, for this chance to help make your lives a little easier and to save you some of your hard-earned money, moving forward. It has always meant a lot to me to do my evel best on anything I do, and being able to combine that with a way of helping others... well, that’s just the icing on the cake! Okay, well, now that I’ve bent your ear, a bit, where will I be working today?” Those few words, at the beginning, will immediately set you apart from the rest of the crowd, and while you’re working, chances are pretty good that they’ll already be thinking about how different the experience of working with you has been. Now, after you’re done with your work, if you _do_ make followup calls (i.e. if you’re an oil burner technician, who’ll be back for routine maintenance of their equipment), you might consider bringing your customers down to see the quality of the work you did, especially as it compares to the last guy’s work. “You see how there are big blobs of solder over there? Now, look at how much cleaner these are... Granted, not everybody gets excited about solder joints, but, hey, I’ve always thought that going the extra step makes a difference. Don’t you agree?” When they nod in agreement, you might pretend you’re Lt. Columbo for a minute, and add, “Y’know, while I think of it, folks, can I ask you a little favor? When you have a small business, like mine, advertising can only take you so far; the real lifeblood of my business are the friends and family members that my satisfied customers send my way. I don’t want to put you on the spot for anything like that, but could you do me a favor and see if you can think of anyone else who might like to save on their future bills, like you’ll be? If it helps any, I’d be glad to take a percentage off of your nextmaintenance visit for each referral you send my way...” Then, thank them again for their decision to hire you, leave them with your card — or, even better yet, a refrigerator magnet that they can see every day, and leave them to mull over what an unusually positive experience they’ve just had with you! You might also follow up with them, a week later, to ask how they’re doing with their new equipment, and if there are any questions or concerns that’ve come up, in the days since you last saw them. All in all, what you’re doing is letting them know that you care about them, and about the work you do, and giving them yet another reason to tell their friends and neighbors about you

(more) As a massage therapist, that's not a question I usually receive, but what I do (often) get are callers asking “How much do you charge for Deep Tissue massage?", thinking that they're going to be able to compare apples to apples and just walk away with the “grand prize" of a great service for next to nothing. When I get one of these calls, I'll usually respond with a pattern interrupter, like, “Hmm... I'm wondering if you can help me with something... Approximately how much do you think a red car should cost?", or “That depends... would you like that WITH pain, or WITHOUT?", or “Well, that depends: when I'm done, would you rather feel like your whole body is lighter, taller and filled with greater space and ease of movement than ever before, or just that all of your muscles and joints have been forcefully 'tenderized' with the back end of a broom handle?", or “That depends on the level of care and quality you think your body deserves. A lot of massage therapists seem to think you should feel like you just lost out in a barroom brawl, after receiving a deep tissue massage. I think you should leave feeling like you just died and went to Heaven, so I take the extra time to make sure I’m not causing your body any trauma, when I work on you, but that extra degree of care and concern for your well-being takes longer, so it costs a bit more. So, what matters most to you?” Once I've gotten them to stop thinking exclusively about price and answer that question — usually by peppering me with some questions it had never even occurred to them to ask anyone else, before — and once I've explained to them that it never, ever hurts when I perform Deep Tissue, Sports and/or Medical massages, and that the results they'll get to experience from my work often vastly exceed those they'll experience at the hands of less experienced or more formulaic practitioners (as evidenced by the more than 60 online rave reviews by past and current clients, about how there aren't any “recovery periods" after my sessions, so recipients just get off the table and can go back to their days feeling amazing), about 60% of those “just looking" callers will book an initial session with me, and an awful lot of those who do come in will re-book immediately afterwards, even though my hourly rates are higher than those of some of the other LMTs in the area. In the end, my response to the commitment phobic “just looking" price-shopper is to understand that he or she simply doesn't know that there are vast differences between luxurious and bargain-basement service, and that the only way for either of us to know if we're a good fit for the other is to get the conversation off of price and onto why the asker is asking about Deep Tissue massage, in the first place. Because, unless and until I can get them to ask deeper questions and consider other possibilities, so they can begin to see me as a knowledgeable and caring professional, and one who's dedicated to their wellbeing and able to offer them a very personalized service that they cannot get anywhere else, in their eyes, the most I will ever be is the purple, brown, orange, green, pink, blue, yellow or burgundy box on the shelf at the discount store, to be compared for price and price alone. And you know what? We both deserve better than that.
