How We Got Started

BBB came about due to the false advertisements that were prominent in the early 1900s. Said practices were the subject of various court cases, such as the United States vs. Forty Barrels and Twenty Kegs of Coca-Cola that were instituted by the government against several US companies. The growing advertising industry found itself at a crossroads with the government for engaging in practices that did not benefit consumers.

In 1911, the adoption of the “Ten Commandments of Advertising,” which was developed by advertising firms, individual business and the formation of Vigilance Committees for eliminating abuses. In 1912, the National Vigilance Committee was established to support regional/national advertising efforts. They later merged with a separate but similar entity known as the National Association of Better Business Bureaus in 1946, ultimately forming what is now known as the International Association of Better Business Bureaus, Inc., or IABBB.

Consulting an attorney who deals with this kind of situation would be best. I wish you the best on this horrific situation.

Have you added a Pinterest, Facebook and Instagram? Changing or adding information on these site may keep you relevant and in front of possible consumers. This takes time everyday to keep it going. Also following other people on all these areas will get you a follow yourself. Asked friends and family to share your posts as well.  This is the holiday buying season. Not sure what you are selling but a handcrafted item is a fun and unique gift. This may be a great time to put all this in place for the exposure.  Be sure to keep a link on everything back to your site on Etsy so they can buy from you easily.  Moving from a hobbies to an income stream takes a lot of work on exposure. You may also consider selling in person at some craft fairs. This would give you some face to face reaction on your crafts and give you some time to pick the brain of other crafters there as well.  Best wishes!

My motto about dumb questions is "we all start from nowhere". We go to college, take workshops, pick brains, or search the internet for answers. Sometimes these answers are questions we did not even know we needed to ask.  I am always thankful for someone to give me the time to explain things to me. This run down of terms above is really helpful.

These are business owners are experts in their field and are doing their best to wear all the hats they need to get the business going. Partnering with Better Business Bureau is a great way to let potential customer know both HOW you do business as well as that you are in business.  Our vision is an ethical marketing place where buyers and sellers trust each other.  Having a report with BBB is free. You can update this at anytime you move, have a new website, new emails. A consumer can leave a review for you on our site. Those are vetting, so all reviews are sent to the company before they are published. BBB's are set up locally, so companies need to contact their local BBB to start the process of adding their information.

James, the part I don't like about networking groups as I am kind of shy. This sounds funny from a women who makes cold call every day but standing in a room full of strangers is totally terrifying to me. Go figure. So going to one of these events is painful to me.  (more) James, the part I don't like about networking groups as I am kind of shy.
