Two Rivers Yarn Co. began during a season when I needed a creative outlet. Knitting has always been my quiet place. After moving and retiring from a 30-year career surrounded by color, artists, and people, I shifted into at-home bookkeeping. It was practical, but I missed color and creativity.
One day, I saw a reel of someone dyeing yarn and thought, I could bring color back into my life. Why not dye my own? I ordered a few undyed skeins, set up a small dye space at home, and started experimenting. The moment I pulled that first skein from the dye pot and saw the colors blend, something clicked. It felt like magic. I knew I had found what I was meant to do.
What began as a personal creative escape is now a growing business. I named it Two Rivers Yarn Co. as a nod to the place I call home, Ottawa, Illinois, where two rivers meet. It represents flow, movement, spirituality, friendship, and the path that appears when we follow what lights us up.
