I am an award-winning photographer and author with over 30 years in the business. I am in the process of recreating myself and my business due to Covid, and -- although I will continue to do some client work -- my focus is on coaching photographers who want to level up their skill set or launch/expand a career in the business. There is still much to do before my 'official' relaunch. In the meanwhile, looking for a small group of beta testers to work with in exchange for honest feedback as I create what I hope will be helpful, engaging content.
My first job in photography was shooting real estate ads for the local paper (Ann Arbor News). My boss (Cecile Lockard) saw that I wanted to learn and took me under wing, so I ended up shooting everything from full-page features to sports. Cecile also taught me to shoot weddings so that I didn't have to clean toilets and windows at Sears anymore to help pay for college.
One of my assignments while working for the paper was to cover a local pageant director. I noticed the photos on the display board there and asked how to get into shooting pageant and modeling headshots. The director introduced me to a prominent dance coach, who took me under wing and taught me to shoot modeling composites and competition headshots.
When the newspaper job finally came to an end a yr. and a half later, I had already begun building a client base shooting modeling/talent heads/ports. I loved it so much that I stayed with it and never looked back!
