"Diane is an outstanding trainer and consultant. She connects quickly with those in her workshops and online training videos. Wealth of personal experience dealing with children who have different learning styles and also adults wanting to sharpen their skills in working with children. I love attending Diane's workshops at area conferences and hope to schedule her for a training with my staff soon."

First and foremost, we acknowledge that parents are THE EXPERT on their child (Brazelton Touchpoints theory). From the first contact, they are summing up our program and judging whether we are trustworthy. Being honest and open is critical. Parents should be informed of policies and procedures, and they should know what we expect from them as well as what they can expect from us. When mistakes happen, and mistakes will happen, we always get back to the parents very quickly with an explanation of how it happened and what we will do to prevent it from happening in the future. I have found that parents are very appreciative of this policy. We assure them that no concern is too small to bring to our attention. In fact, we welcome their input into our program; many times parental concerns promote positive changes in our program. In cases where trust is eroded, we let the parents know we will work hard to regain that trust. It is critical to any relationship, but especially when dealing with children.
I have used almost all the resources suggested by others, and when I find a good high school intern, I pay them $7.50 rather than minimum wage, which is $7.25 in Texas. It is not a lot, but shows that we care about going a step above. When the students complete high school, they are easily going...

It is not a lot, but shows that we care about going a step above. When the students complete high school, they are easily going to make at least $8.00 if their work performance is good.
The biggest misconception that I am aware of is that we are just babysitters (or nannies).

But while you are waiting for people to come, make sure you work diligently to build quality into your program and a welcoming, inviting entry. A few satisfied customers will start the flow of people coming in to check you out. Make sure the person who answers your phone is lively, energetic, and enthusiastic. The phone person is the first image of how the public perceives your business.
