How We Got Started

I started painting murals for other people right out of grad school by painting a friend's nursery...that's how it all began :) Little by little I started getting more projects while I was still working my job as an art teacher. I then started taking classes in faux finishing, furniture, venetian plasters, as well as other materials to keep my portfolio up to date.

No.  I do not want federal government regulations in my small business.  I have enough regulations at the state level.   (more) No.  I do not want federal government regulations in my small business.  I have enough regulations at the state level.

Ha ha, I just read your question.  You are not alone, my friend.  My house is half painted!  I have paintings--MY artwork--that I have finally gotten back to and none of them are finished.  ( I did chuckle about the duct tape.)   (more) Ha ha, I just read your question.  You are not alone, my friend.  My house is half painted!  I have paintings--MY artwork--that I have finally gotten back to and none of them are finished.  ( I did chuckle about the duct tape.)

Like other folks have said, get your FB page going and Instagram too.  CONTENT is key--how do you HELP people with their painting PROBLEMS.  Offer SOLUTIONS.  Once you determine who your market is, talk to people such as realtors, house flippers, GC's, anyone in the construction/reno industry and go to local networking groups (meetup has many that are for free, FB does as well.) Get listed on Google.  Get reviewed on there too. These things will help you establish trust as well as your expertise in your field.  Make sure you have your licensure as a Home Improvement Contractor too.   I'm sure there are other things I forgot.   Good luck and keep us posted!
