Data is the oil that greases the online marketing process. Google doesn't just take data and horde it, they share it! Check out Google Trends to gain insight into demographics and trends. Look into where your competition is advertising and spy on their online and social strategies with tools like Spyfu, Ubersuggest and SEM Rush. This helps you choose who you want to target and gets you started on what an effective message could be. Once you have done your research, you want to make some ads and split test them. Pit your ads against each other and let Darwin determine the winner. In other words, don't make assumptions about what anyone wants to see, use trial and error to learn what appeals to your potential customers. Then, show them that!

We see a ton of monthly traffic come to our site from Alignable, but you have to commit! Set up an in-depth profile, make meaningful connections, and then work your network! I constantly fine-tune my list of businesses I'd like to connect with and try to post new offers regularly. Tell your connections about what you do and answer questions. You can even determine a radius for businesses to connect with. I like to meet with potential clients face-to-face, and Alignable makes that easy. Another platform you shouldn't overlook is LinkedIn. I'm not just talking about directly reaching out with connections and InMail. I'm talking about using LinkedIn's advertising platform. LinkedIn has all the data on who the decision-makers are at local businesses. What better way to introduce them to your brand? Give them a free consultation, or a discount, or start with a small job and show them you can make a difference for them.

(more) Targeted advertising will give you the most bang for your buck, and the most measurable results. You want to send ads to people you know are already likely to be interested. That's at the top of your marketing funnel, and should drive customers down each step of the way. Now, the form of advertising depends on the business. Targeted advertising doesn't mean digital display and PPC exclusively. Increasingly, it means cross-media campaigns. You can do this through digital mediums - like apps, streaming services or web display ads. You can even take advantage of digital outdoor billboards that use geolocation and advertising profiles to send targeted ads to potential customers in passing cars. The more digital the world gets, the more prolific things like programmatic and targeted advertising will get. 2020 is the perfect time to get on board, so contact an agency, make sure they take the time to understand your business and tailor a plan to fit your needs.

(more) Midland looks like a lovely stop for a cruise! You should always try to know your audience and see what problems you can solve for them. I'd start by calling the cruise line to see if there are any common issues that the tourists have mid-cruise. Maybe people underestimate the need for sunblock or swimsuits/jackets/hats for their little ones? If you understand what frustrations they might have and offer a solution, you will see people pouring in. Tourism works best when a town partners to make the tourists feel welcome. Meet with other nearby business owners, and invite the local tourism bureau. The bureau might have some branded merchandise in stock that you could use as giveaways, or you could all chip in to buy something. That way you can offer an incentive/gift for their visit to your store. For example: a purchase of $25 gets you a free pair of sunglasses with the Midland logo. I've done this too - get a punch card printed with the names of some shops and attractions on it. Tourists often feel overwhelmed and appreciate an itinerary, so offer them an incentivized one. Your portion of this could be baby and child clothing, but you want to be the only one like that on your card. Other "partners" on the card could be family attractions, lunch spots, etc. Having a theme to your card of "fun places for families with toddlers" can make you stand out to your specific audience. If a tourist goes to X number of shops and gets their card punched there, they get something free. Maybe they're entered into a raffle for a free or discounted dinner at a local restaurant. In return, the restaurant might get a free advertisement at the center of the card. Then there is anticipation when they get to town, with people looking forward to that great meal and some freebies.
