At the end of 2019 I was just starting to find my footing as an artist. I had enrolled in a program to learn how to market and sell art on my own. I started to attend some local networking events to build up my connections with potential customers. Then the month of March came, and things came to a screeching halt.
But... One of my networking group started holding their events online. I joined in, met people I would never have met in the "old" way, and started getting commissions for paintings in a whole new direction for me.
I'm just starting out as an artist after a long career in high tech. But in 2020 I quadrupled my sales compared to 2019, and I expect to at least double my sales in 2021. I doubt that I would be on this path had the pandemic not happened and forced all of us to do more of our businesses online. I would have preferred not having a pandemic to cause us to pivot, but I look at is as a sliver lining in what otherwise was a bad year.
