Yoga Below the Belt (Pelvic Floor Focused)
I help people who are struggling with pelvic floor problems learn how to exercise safely. Many students join me while experiencing pain, pressure, incontinence, etc., who feel frustrated and a little bit broken. They learn how to relax and strengthen their pelvic floors while keeping their organs protected, which means a full body workout becomes possible. Students learn how to incorporate body adjustments into their daily lives, and with consistent practice most are comfortable returning to higher impact activities.
Yoga Below the Belt offers online videos that teach people how to do pelvic floor yoga. The site also offers live online classes several days a week. Live sessions include 45 minutes of yoga instruction followed by 15 minutes of Q & A so that we can discuss modifications for specific body concerns. We focus on poses that are safe for the pelvic floor with options both to relax and strengthen the pelvic floor muscles while working the entire body.
I was in physical therapy for pelvic organ prolapse and found that incorporating what I was learning into yoga sped up my progress. When I finished treatment, there were no ideal exercise options for me. The group fitness classes and the routines given by personal trainers made my symptoms worse. My friends experienced the same problem, so I came up with a solution and became a certified yoga instructor, completing specialized classes on teaching yoga for the pelvic floor.
I started teaching a daily morning class for friends and family, and realized quickly how much this was helping everyone. After hearing about pain-free walking, stopped bladder leaks and cancelled surgeries after our third month together, I realized this style of yoga had the potential to help a lot of people. I started filming our favorite classes, created a "how to" workshop, and taught myself how to build a video based website. This is how Yoga Below the Belt was born.
