Community Retirement Home (CRH) in Port Arthur, Texas, was founded in 1944 when a group of citizens, including members of the Federated Mission Society, sought to establish a retirement home for the community. It was officially incorporated on August 28, 1944, and the board purchased a model apartment building on Procter Street to house residents.

Over the years, CRH expanded its facilities, including a major renovation in 1970 that added a kitchen, dining area, administrative offices, and additional living spaces. In December 1988, Dr. John White donated his former office building, further enhancing CRH’s capacity to serve residents.

CRH operates as a nonprofit residence, relying on resident fees, donations, memorials, grants, and fund drives rather than state or federal funding.
