JVIPM (John V. Immitt Project Management, LLC) is a consulting company for real estate development. I offer full management of commercial, institutional and residential projects, i.e. coordinating all members of the team involved. I offer a unique perspective for doing so as I have worked as an architect, engineer, construction manager, expediter and owner's representative with over 45 years experience in the industry.

Knowing that there is a problem and identifying what it really is should be the first rational step to take in troubling times. We need to understand that everyone, especially those in government, should stop blaming Covid for everything. It is more often our reactions to problems that have meaningful consequences than the problems themselves. What we have seen is fear mongering leading to irresponsible actions that have caused more long-term harm to our economy and society as a whole, and when that harm, such as the rise in bankruptcies, suicides, crime, addiction and inflation occur, we hear blame on everything and everyone other than those responsible. We should all work toward a calmer, more focused and rational approach, and understand as Mark Twain did that “I’ve lived through some terrible things in my life, some of which actually happened.”
Stimulus is like a drug, it provides an illusion of momentary relief at the cost of meaningful rehabilitation. With effective hygienic protocols there are no reason to keep businesses repressed, so we need to move on and allow people their livelihoods, providing for a real recovery.

While there's no proof either way regarding whether the increased benefits are a disincentive to returning to work or not, consider the simple economics of people looking to survive. If the total benefit package provides more income than what you got at work, the choice is simple, stay at home. ...

Many business owners I know locally are complaining about a lack of workers, so there's something to the disincentive position. Regardless, we need to stop spending from empty pockets as our children and grandchildren will inherit unmanageable debt that will crush their future.
For all those whose business lends itself to online services, glad to hear it. However, keep in mind that there are many businesses that don't, so it's not a case of one size fits all. In many cases, those businesses employ new entrants into our economy, like immigrants and unskilled workers,...

My business is project management. It's actually all about how to work with people, to understand their goals, even if they have not expressed it accurately or completely, and make it a reality. On the one hand technology is a great tool for doing so, but too easily can act as a buffer. ...

Technology is great and it's helped a lot during the pandemic, but live human contact is irreplaceable.

The growth in internet traffic during the pandemic was huge and is likely to stay at high levels given the trend to working from home, so it's the logical place for marketing and advertising.

Safety requires that hygienic protocols be practiced until such time as a proven vaccine is in common use. This is only common sense, so whether we have lockdowns or not, agree with them or not, the science behind good hygiene is immutable.

Unfortunately the CARES Act does not, at least as yet, provide for self-employed people. As I discussed with my accountant, sole proprietors of LLC's under IRS rules are disregarded entities, and so it is at the moment under the CARES Act. There is speculation that this will change, but as it...

Unfortunately the CARES Act does not, at least as yet, provide for self-employed people. As I discussed with my accountant, sole proprietors of LLC's under IRS rules are disregarded entities, and so it is at the moment under the CARES Act. There is speculation that this will change, but as it stands, despite paying self-employment taxes, all such persons are not considered eligible - wrong on so many levels but that's government.
Follow-up: I read yesterday that the form had changed with the second installment of the SBA/PPP to provide applications for sole proprietor LLCs, essentially self employed people, so I'm going for it. However, in reviewing the regs and rules with my accountant there is still no mention of that, and further no defined way for the IRS to audit such an entity as many of the metrics outlined don't apply. Hey, it's a brave new world so I guess we'll learn as we go.
