Yes! Our Director of Marketing & Communications calls them "Connection Cards." All of the business info is on them - but I know when I get them, I write a note on them to remind me of whom I just met - especially at trade shows, events, etc. They should be handed out - not just given out.

If you were to change the term "small business", what term would you use - 2 words - that would have more relevance to a business rather than some words that describe the size of the business?

As with almost everything, it is about relationships. If it starts with a person answering the telephone - and yes, some companies have a "receptionist" - after you greet them with Good Morning or Good Afternoon, or Hello, say who you are. Give your name, where you are from, and who you would like to speak to. You then may get to an assistant and then do the same thing again. At this point, tell them briefly why you are calling. Whether you go into the contact's voice mail or the assistant takes a message, thank them for their time. Be direct & honest. If no response in 48 hours, call back and remind them that you called on "Wednesday" and are following up. Always treat an assistant like they are the person you are trying to contact. They have jobs that require a lot from them. Don't run them over because they are doing "their job."

They support us by advertising with us, or becoming a team sponsor. Mutual visibility is important. Companies/group that offer coupons or things to our team and fans are very important also. Partnerships! That leads to success for all.

The way we play on the field is not a loving, romantic connection with others who wear a different uniform. The way we "play" in the community is another story. We tackle on the field - not in the community. We might take your ball and run away from you on the field - not in the community. We partnership up with a many types of businesses so we are not exclusive - unless you are our one industry exclusive touchdown sponsor partner! Our unusual business partnerships is with almost anybody!
