Nepotism is a strange bedfellow. In my experience a family member especially a son or daughter is either groomed for a top level job or just steps into it ready or not. If as a hired hand you think you are going to gain something above and beyond a son or daughter or even a son-in-law or daughter-in-law you two must put your finger into that glass of water and see the hole you leave. Even the most inept family member will be promoted to the highest level of his/her incompetence. I know that sounds very pessimistic but in the family businesses I worked for even the crumbs that fell from the table were swept up rather than being shared with those bedfellows I spoke of earlier. In the finer scheme of things if you are seeking equal opportunity either join a huge company where you can gain ground even in the face of nepotism or fined a job/occupation in a non-family environment.
