Open United Recovery Place: Where Recovery Meets Creativity and Compassion
Led by peers who’ve walked the path, OUR Place is a welcoming hub for healing in Portage County, Ohio. We are a certified Peer Run Organization -- specifically, a Recovery Community Organization (RCO) -- offering support, connection, and empowerment to anyone impacted by addiction, mental health challenges, or trauma. Our approach is rooted in lived experience, mutual respect, and the belief that recovery isn’t one-size-fits-all -- it’s a journey we walk together.
From expressive arts and trauma-informed yoga to peer mentorship, family support, and harm reduction outreach, OUR Place blends holistic programming with real-world tools. We host over 25 hours of weekly peer-led meetings, drop-in support, resource navigation, and vibrant sober events that help individuals and families rebuild their lives. No judgment. No red tape. Just support, community, and a safe place to grow.

The seeds of OUR Place were planted in 2014 through a grassroots harm reduction outreach & Facebook group launched by Jessika Easterling, a person in long-term recovery, in collaboration with Mim Cherrie, a family advocate with OhioCAN. By 2018, deeper conversations with Lanika Mutsach and Lindsay Washington helped bring the full vision of a Recovery Community Center to life. Together, they founded OUR Place (Open United Recovery), a peer-led nonprofit offering holistic programs, harm reduction, and multiple recovery pathways. In 2022, we opened Portage County’s first Recovery Community Center. Since then, we’ve expanded our team, gained 501(c)(3) status, and earned certification as a Peer Recovery Organization through OhioMHAS. Today, OUR Place is a movement—meeting people where they are and honoring every healing journey.
