I'm a local artisan with a passion for woodworking. Prickly Pear is focused on providing unique handcrafted functional and decorative items made from locally and internationally sourced exotic hardwoods. The products are made to be actively used actively used and will stand the test of time.

My woodworking started with a kitchen renovation. During the process I developed an understanding and appreciation of wood types and their unique beauty and character. I ended up using RTA (ready to assemble) cabinets made from quarter sawn oak with walnut pegs. I assembled the entire suite of kitchen cabinets and became increasingly intrigued by wood and its lifecycle: growth, harvesting, milling, drying, creating and finishing. My desire to create started from there.

I bought some used tools and enhanced my skills, through magazines, books, online resources and in-person courses. I started to learn through trial and error and sought more structured education. As I became more proficient, friends and family asked that I create and repair wood products. And as my creations evolved, it became evident that hand crafted items were my passion. I gifted my creations and saw that people appreciated my handmade crafts.
