Many small businesses won’t qualify in part because many small businesses had operating losses for 2019, the period in which comparisons to 2020 are required to show, to enable SBA approvals. Please correct me if I’m wrong. My business has suffered tremendous difficulty since January 2017. We made a profit in 2018, but suffered a loss in 2019 and 2020 was substantially worse. Why would the SBA approve a loan for any business reporting repeated losses? Does that not indicate difficulty in managing loan repayments?

Sadly, people are reactive and not proactive and my trade usually does significantly better during recession times. In boom times, with low unemployment, people seem to believe crime reduces (and it does for the most part), but rather than be proactive and secure their properties in boom times, they leave them be and are often dismayed when they have to pay more in hard times, not because we charge more, but because time is more precious. i wish it were different but on the four continents I have lived and worked, it is the same story.

Most other “western” countries realized generations ago that universal minimum health coverage is a basic human right that every soul pays for collectively for collective benefits. Additional coverage or “Cadillac plans” can still be offered by determined companies and individuals wanting to cover non basic “minimums”, but essentially a socialized healthcare program allows companies to save billions of dollars in costs, allowing them to pay more/higher salaries and wages, effectively improving every persons quality of life and personal consumer buying power. Thus producing increased consumer confidence in economies and greater spend on local products and services....all because they have more disposable income and less cost for their health. A number of people claim that this is socialism.  It is not. All tax payers contribute their money to fund local police, fire, local, state and federal government programs, unbelievable constantly increasing government salaries while cutting funding to programs. Is this how the people want their money spent by government? Spend less on the people and more on autocratic beaureaucracy? Or do we demand benefits that help us all prosper and all benefit? I vote for the people!

Once you’re connected to them, you cannot delete your information. reviews cannot be controlled or, for that matter be answered. You can have hundreds or thousands of reviews but Yelp will not publish them unless you pay exorbitant fees. They are the subject of an ongoing class action lawsuit, a similar suit that forced Angie’s List to sell out to Home Advisor parent IAC (ANGI). Yelp pester you repeatedly. Third party companies, claiming a Yelp certification, pester you constantly. Yelp waste your time and provide no meaningful marketing assistance to you.

It’s been going 12 years and is essentially a blog.  The web requires never-ending new content constantly uploaded so bots have to work harder to map your site. dont overuse keywords, but be sure to have words and phrases in bold font. Search engines will recognize bold font and enter them as search terms.  Always (if possible) cite your source. Don’t copy verbatim or you may be penalized by search engines. Write new original content and link to your sources. my website is https://www.locks210.com if you’re interested. is it perfect?  Absolutely not. Besides paying for domain name there is no other cost (except time to write and research articles). The web is constantly growing. It’s a living, evolving technology. You need to contribute to that growth. Just building a site and letting it sit there with no improvement or new content, is self defeating.

An interesting amount of opinions here. I have been with HA since 2007, when they were first called Service Magic. Not knowing anyone in the region when I moved here, gaining a footing in the local market was very expensive and difficult to find a successful ROI. Google AdWords had just started and advertising through the new medium was inexpensive at 1-2c per click. But throwing $300/month at Google got me plenty of hits but little to no custom. Home Advisor provided the opportunity to enjoy a presence without breaking the bank. When I first started with them, there were 30-40 other businesses in my category, so it was about 6 months before I started seeing any benefits. At about the 6 month point, all the other businesses had quit the program and I was the only one left. Naturally I picked up a lot of business. The next 10 years provided quite a bit of new business for me and helped me establish a word of mouth referral system. We currently enjoy 380+ reviews with an average of 4.8/5 stars. Being grandfathered in on the original subscription continues to be a godsend because HA have changed their system a large number of times and newer contractors are required to pay significantly more to be members there, hence I suggest explains why there appears to be so much distaste toward them. The facts about the merge with Angie’s List differ from the opinions provided by others here. Angie’s List we’re sued in a class action lawsuit that virtually crippled them. Home Advisors parent company bought out Angie’s List and created a publicly listed corporation called ANGI Services, putting HA and AL under that umbrella. Likewise to other complainants here, I am none too happy with HA post AL merge, although I am heartened that I’m still grandfathered in on the original system framework. I’m including a link to my public HA profile here, to show my profile there and my reviews. It is the reviews alone that continue to help me source business through them and also online through the search engines because many of those reviews are seen online at the search engine results pages. Many of the complaints I read herein are quite true however perhaps a little misleading. What annoys me the most about the HA system is their false advertising. They advertise that HA is free to use. While essentially it is, HA are getting users to supply their contact data and then selling that data to contractors for a fee. The contractors require to charge the customer fees to pay for the leads. HA are effectively doing what Yellow Pages and similar directories did for decades, but instead of companies paying advertising fees for a dartboard, hoping that a customer throws their dart at the companies name and calls, companies are paying for the customers data and calling the customer instead of waiting for their phone to ring. HA capitalized on selling customer data to contractors looking for new business.  HA doesn’t tell everyone that they are collecting their data to onsell to their lists of advertisers and this is the primary issue. Thanks for looking at my HA public profile.... https://www.homeadvisor.com/ra... Update: as of yesterday I suspended my HA leads for 90 days. They raised their lead costs again to almost 20% of my average fee. The quantity of bogus leads has increased tenfold and their credit department refuse to credit when they encounter the identical issues, you submitted your credit request for. Their charter is, “To connect home owners with service professionals”, If the service professional and the homeowner do not connect at all for any reason, HA have failed in their charter and cannot charge for failures. But of course they won’t see it this way and only a class action suit would make them change. I am disturbed by their continuing issues and fed up with the BS. It has allowed me to gain some great customers and accounts, for which I am grateful and that’s why I don’t abandon them completely (combined with the fact my 380+ reviews can be found across the web). Until they rectify their credit issues, it has become more of a liability than a resource.

(more) Money being as tight as it is and the increasing number of tire kickers and bargain shoppers combined with the lack of loyalty to service providers, is making/has made me re-examine my marketing strategy. I am turning more toward volume discounting. The more you buy the more you save. The more often you use our service, the more often you will receive discounts. I see many advertisers attempting to attract first time customers by offering some % discount, yet no discounts or special offers to returning clients. I think this is a fundamental marketing error. When you realize that 80% of your profits come from 20% of your clients, you begin to realize that customer acquisition costs play a huge role in determining your continuing profitability. This year (our 13th year), we are offering a 12% discount on top of any other discount for parts only, on the 12th business day of each month until December. We are also about to introduce a liquidation sale on overstocked items to clear inventory for new and different products. We expect the inventory liquidation sale to be up to 60% off current list prices. With Amazon and other online marketplaces encroaching on our profit margins too significantly to ignore, we have decided to fight them by discounting until they are no longer competitive. We expect a difficult fight, but we are indignant and focused on winning the good fight and providing our customers with wins too.

Also, your TA can often find deals that benefit you more for your individual needs, than you might ever hope to find yourself. Do yourself a favor and always consult your TA first, IMHO!
