As a military brat I didn't have a hometown. Sure there is the place I was born and that we'd go visit family in every couple of years. It was also the place we stayed for a couple of years while Dad was in Vietnam twice. But can I call it my hometown?

Most all of you have at least a couple of people you grew up with. I grew up with my sister. Which wasn't a bad thing, we are close. But my oldest friends are from my time in the service right after highschool. Even the friends I had in HS, since we were military kids, wound up scattered all over the country. We haven't even had a successful HS reunion cause there are only a small handful of local kids that stayed in the area.

I don't share this to get any sympathy. I loved my life. I was proud of my Dad and those that he served with. Seeing new places and meeting new people was a blast. All us kids were in the same boat, being the new kid at school every 2 to 4 yrs. and having to get used to a whole new community that was the same but not really. (If you've ever lived on a military base you'll know what I mean. LOL) We bonded that way.

What I've found is that very few of us after attaining adulthood live in our hometown. To me what has always been most important is the people I'm around. Not the things or place. Even if you live in your hometown but tragically it's been hit by a natural disaster it will be the people that are the most important. Not the buildings.
