Why apologize when you've done nothing wrong? Unfortunately, it is impossible for everyone to see each occurrence in life exactly the same way! Whether or not the review poster is telling the truth from your perspective ... they have a reason for posting the negative/untruthful review. Leading with an apology is generally the safest and sometimes fastest route to resolving the conflict ... imagined or otherwise.
Have you ever experienced conflict with a loved one only to find out, after you unleashed your "rage," you actually misunderstood something they said or did? Imagine for a moment, the review poster simply misunderstood something that occurred. Leading with an apology and offering to resolve the issue at hand in a manner that would please the "injured party" gives you the opportunity to have a conversation with them that can potentially lead to a complete understanding ... and healing.
Once the "real problem" is resolved, it is much easier to ask the reviewer to remove the negative review and even post a positive review explaining how you resolved the "conflict" to their satisfaction. Hold on ... your work doesn't stop there...
Next, you should: Setup a review strategy for your business that will enable you to market for positive reviews as well as address negative reviews before they are posted. This will increase your positive reviews on a consistent basis and your reputation will shine as well as be more relevant due to recency. This will also help you resolve conflict before a negative review is posted ... ensuring you will continue to show a great reputation.

Depending on the review platform, post a response to the negative review that includes your reaching out with a sincere apology and offer to resolve the issue to the review poster's satisfaction. If this does not elicit a response/resolution/dialogue, then post an account of your efforts to resolve the conflict to no avail. Include in that post how important customer satisfaction is to you/your company and ask that anyone who experiences conflict with your company in the future take the time to reach out to you assuring them you will do everything possible to "make it right."
