About Us

Santa Claus, Inc. provides new critical needs items (shoes, clothing, hygiene kits, backpacks and school supplies, infant items, toys, books, blankets, coats, etc.) to underprivileged children by supporting and strengthening the family unit through vital seasonal and year-round programs. Since it was founded in 1952, SCI has served the needs of over 2.5 million children who live in poverty.

How We Got Started

Mignon Schweitzer, a post-war San Bernardino community leader, hated the fact that families were not treated with dignity when they lined up on the streets to receive charitable Christmas gifts for their children. She was sad to see young military families at Norton Air Force Base who didn't have enough money to purchase toys for their children's Christmases. Mignon rallied the San Bernardino business community and founded Santa Claus, Inc., with a mission to provide Christmas presents to parents while treating them with dignity. Santa Claus, Inc., even though it was founded 74 years ago, still personifies the same mission of serving families with dignity.

The prices in Southern CA. have gone up so much it's prohibiting many families from dining out. Five in our family ate at a local diner last week. 3 hamburgers/fries, 2 salads and 4 drinks. It was over $100 with the tip. I understand raising prices during this time but this is insane!  (more) The prices in Southern CA. have gone up so much it's prohibiting many families from dining out. It depends on the size of the nonprofit and the size of its contact list. It isn't a good possibility for our organization.  (more) It depends on the size of the nonprofit and the size of its contact list. It isn't a good possibility for our organization.

It takes lots of time to get recognized. I suggest lots of net-working in your area and as much leadership training as you can possibly find. That is how you will receive the best training and great ideas in all areas of nonprofit. We've been around for 67 years and the work has been on-going for... That is how you will receive the best training and great ideas in all areas of nonprofit. We've been around for 67 years and the work has been on-going for that long. You can do it as long as you have a strong mission, loyal leadership that is willing to work very long hours and dedicated volunteers.
