Identity Theft Resource Center
The Identity Theft Resource Center (ITRC) is a non-profit organization established to support victims of identity theft in resolving their cases, and to broaden public education and awareness in the understanding of identity theft, data breaches, cybersecurity, scams/fraud and privacy issues.
Identity theft was identified as a federal crime in 1998. The vision of Identity Theft Resource Center began when a victim of identity theft saw the lack of resources available to help reduce the impact and level of harm caused by this crime. The Center was opened in 1999 to provide free resources to the public when they need assistance with identity theft and other identity theft related issues such as scams/fraud, data breaches, cybersecurity and privacy issues.
