About Us

My mission is to educate women how to find their optimal health. As women, we have a particularly complex web of hormones communicating with each other at a cellular level within our brains, endocrine system (thyroid, insulin, estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, cortisol) - or simply, our neuroendocrine system. When any of these systems are out of balance, we experience many unwanted symptoms of pre or perimenopause: hot flashes, night sweats, brain fog, weight gain, irregular or heavy periods, insomnia and irritability- among others.

My holistic approach to optimal health includes using the wisdom of Chinese Medicine (herbs, acupuncture, diagnosis) and Functional Medicine (lab testing, evidence based treatments and biochemical based philosophy) which look for the source of your imbalance or disease.

Many women do not need hormonal therapy to get back into balance - we can use the wisdom of plant-based herbal therapies that communicate with our endocrine hormones in a natural way that gently brings us back into balance without the often risky side effects of hormone therapy. Using HRT is a personal decision and also sometimes needed for your best health - functional hormone testing is important to see not only your hormone levels but how your body is able to detoxify and keep your levels healthy.

How We Got Started

I have had a private, integrative medicine practice in the San Diego area for the last 16 years. As a former Registered Nurse, I act as a bridge between Western and Eastern medicine. Currently, our wellness center in La Jolla, CA incorporates convenient lab testing, acupuncture, herbs, meditation lunch hour, community talks and events.

It is often lumped into 'complementary and alternative medicine' but it is truly a stand-alone system that has been around for over 3,ooo years. It is an energy medicine that assists the body to get back into a state of balance which basically means, in a conventional medicine point of view, moving the body from a sympathetic, stress response into a parasympathetic, relaxed response.  In this state, we can trust in the wisdom of our body to heal itself.   Acupuncture has an anti-inflammatory effect that calms the body to function more appropriately by by placing the needles along specific channels that bring improved blood circulation to areas that are most needed. This effect is important not only for pain and injury but digestive, hormonal, immune, and mood conditions as well. A well-trained acupuncturist will know the specific points to use for each individual- as these treatments are formulated specifically for that patient's pattern.  When I educate my patients and the public about Chinese Medicine, acupuncture is important but also part of a bigger health care system.  Chinese Medicine practitioners can use herbal medicine, nutrition, mind-body practices and lifestyle coaching to help patients get back in balance so they can find relief of acute illness and reverse or prevent chronic conditions.   Chinese medicine and acupuncture is an effective, ancient medicine that has stood the test of time because it treats the whole person- mind, body and spirit. Holistic medicine is what is missing in conventional medicine and what people want -and need most- for the prevention and treatment of chronic conditions.

(more) My favorite patient is one who understands that to achieve his or her health goals, they have to be a partner in the process. My job is to educate my patients to understand the importance of taking back their health by honoring how the body works and how to support that natural function- mind & body. Only then can I truly help them heal and find sustainable and true health. Some people are not ready to take responsibility for their lifestyle choices. Many patients are caught up in the way conventional medicine has taught them to understand health: covering up symptoms. Chinese medicine & functional medicine both look for root causes of symptoms and treat for optimal function of the body systems. When new patients understand this concept right away, they will be a patient for life and will know when they need a 'tune up' because they now have a connection to their symptoms at a deeper level.
