Autumn Adamme founded Dark Garden in 1989, in San Francisco, CA. It was the first step on a journey that has seen her dubbed “The Godmother of Modern Corsetry,” one of world’s foremost experts in corset fitting. Our standard fit corsets are based on her decades of experience in bespoke work – a tradition we continue to this day. The perfect fit is where beauty & comfort converge, no matter your size.
We’ve had a few landmark moments since then!
Dita Von Teese commissioned her first Dark Garden corset in 1996, and it was in a Dark Garden corset that she graced the cover of Playboy in 2002!
After a few moves, we settled into our current location on Linden Street in 1997.
In 2001, the standard fit collection launched, and it remains the only corset line based on a true average of modern bodies.
We welcomed Kalico Delafay to our design team in 2010 with her signature Dollymop silhouette and millinery. In 2016 Associate Designer Marianne Faulkner also joined the design team, adding her own quirky and sexy aesthetic into the mix.
In 2017, we expanded within our Linden St. location by adding a dedicated couture atelier as well as bringing in bra-fit specialist Revelation in Fit for full service bra fitting.
In April 2019 we opened our first additional location in New Orleans’ Uptown Magazine St. neighborhood, in a beautiful historic building.
Both locations offer excellent customer service as well as a comfortable place to explore our unique brand of style and beauty.
Autumn initially began creating historically-inspired clothing in 1989.
In 1993, Autumn realized her true calling and began focusing on corsetry, working with clients ranging from modern brides to San Francisco’s famous court of queers. Options were slim at that time and Autumn knew that if she wanted comfortable and high-quality corsetry, she would have to make it herself!
