About Us
DATATECH is a reliable provider of computer based information systems to small businesses with 1-25+ users and prides itself on its reputation for quality and customer support. We also have a sister office in the Springfield, Massachusetts area.
How We Got Started
I love technology and I enjoy helping people to use it in the workplace to increase their productivity. The large companies do not always pay much attention to smaller businesses. I started my own business years ago because I saw an opportunity to help those small businesses grow and I have never looked back.

"Patrick and I have very similar businesses; we recently worked together to help a customer solve some very daunting issues. I consider him to be a great "friendly" competitor. One should not fear competitors - the "good" ones should be embraced. There is enough pie out there for all those who know what they are doing."

Since we operate in an area where storms can cause business interruptions, we already had in place the ability to support our customer base using remote technologies. The difference with Covid19 was the absolute need to use safe practices. We already had PPG. So Datatech is already prepared for lock downs. We even have a generator to replace lost power. A key will be the ability of our internet service provider to stay online.

Networking groups have great value for my business. I have found others who provide services I need and they in turn have found me. As a small business without the resources to mount serious marketing and sales campaigns and for whom advertising has never worked, it is an excellent economical alternative. Before Covid19, almost every networking meeting I attended resulted in business. My investment of time paid off during the shutdown(s). Those groups continue to meet via Zoom and it's well worth it. In this geographic area, we have Networking Group USA (https://networkinggroupusa.com) and Power Hour (http://www.powerhourgroup.com/). Each has multiple chapters. Those websites have information about how to join.

People who need it should have it. BUT, there needs to be a way to address the fact that some folks make more money collecting UI + $600 than they did by working. In this pandemic, most of them are not responsible for being unemployed, BUT taking away the incentive to work is not a positive thing.

Meetup has helped me to become aware of various networking groups, some of which I have attended and a few of those I have joined. It also helps me to keep my finger on the pulse of my market area. Linkedin.com is different. I usually connect with folks who I have crossed paths with (or might) professionally. It does present some education opportunities. It also appears to be a good place if you are seeking a W-2 position. I am not. I have been able to reconnect with people I have worked with in professional life from the past and that has been a positive thing. Overall, with respect to my business, I view social media as a platform where I can promote my business and connect with other professionals. I do have a business Facebook page and I probably check that a lot more often than I do my Linkedin page.
I plan to do all networking online until there is a vaccine or CDC says it no longer exists anywhere. As much as I enjoy personal interaction, you cannot enjoy anything if you are dead.

This is a short description; others will add I am sure. Most of the time, for security issues, the problem is between the keyboard and the chair, so always use common sense, e.g. avoid using links in email messages. In addition, if you have not already done so, you should change the default passwords on your ISP provided modem/router and any routers of your own. The default passwords are published all over the internet. You should be using a strong password to log into your own computer. You should have current antivirus/anti-malware software that automatically updates with program updates and virus definitions and and that automatically scans your computer and any files you download. If you store data on your computer, you should have a good backup system to store all of your user data safely. I recommend Carbonite. It's only $72/year. You can download and install it using this link: https://partners.carbonite.com/datatechcomputersolutions.

I haven't seen a laptop without a wireless NIC and RJ45 port in a long time. Rather than focus on Dell, I'd recommend deciding what features you need and want and then shopping for the best deal. When you find something that fits for you, go online and read the end-user reviews about dependability, ease of use and customer support. CNet is one good online source, although, the number of ads on their site is increasing. Also, at least once a year Consumer Reports does a review of laptops. If you're not a subscriber, most libraries have it.
I check my website daily to ensure it's working. Once a week, I do it with a critical eye, including sending a test inquiry. Periodically, I ask someone else to review it. Once a year, usually in January, I force myself to change it to keep it "fresh." From time to time, based on events, new...

I check my website daily to ensure it's working. Once a week, I do it with a critical eye, including sending a test inquiry. Periodically, I ask someone else to review it. Once a year, usually in January, I force myself to change it to keep it "fresh." From time to time, based on events, new products or "specials," I make ad hoc changes. Full disclosure: I do not use my site to sell goods and services online. If you do, your update frequency will be different. One caveat: anyone on your staff should be able to update content - you should not have to have a third party do that for you if you contract with them. You should also have the credentials filed in a safe place to access your site in developer mode. Any website supporter who will not share those items wants to keep you "indentured."

From time to time, this can be pragmatic and it can work. How things are approached can vary depending on the situation. In my case, I have brought in (an)other vendor(s) to perform work that is outside what I normally do. It is important that what the other party is to do is carefully defined....

From time to time, this can be pragmatic and it can work. How things are approached can vary depending on the situation. In my case, I have brought in (an)other vendor(s) to perform work that is outside what I normally do. It is important that what the other party is to do is carefully defined. When there is overlapping and collaboration, then I switch to the subcontractor model. My business either subcontracts to the other or vice-versa. It is important that someone be providing the leadership for the project.
