When is the right time to retire?
Answered by:
The right time to retire is like asking when you are ready. For some, that is now, next year or never.
Others may have wanted to retire a long time ago but did not have enough savings and/or income to do so.
For some it was due to a lack of planning. For others, it could have been unforeseen glitches such as job loss, business failure, death of spouse, health of a family member that needed care, divorce. The list is endless.
No matter how well we plan there is always something that was not anticipated.
My business is such that I can retire when I want to, or when I have to. I can work when I want and take off when needed.
Last year my wife had an injury that essentially required round the clock care for 5 months. Since I work from home I was able to attend to her needs but still keep myself active on a very part time basis.
As long as I have access to a phone and the internet I can run my business from anywhere. Most folks don't have that luxury.
Residual income means I still get paid even in weeks or months when I don't attract new clients.
For me, the right time to retire is . . . . not anytime soon. As long as my health stays good I can go another 5 to 10 years and then decide if it is time to hang up my spurs or not.
Right now my clients need me and new ones come along almost weekly who get information from me that is not available anywhere else. I offer boutique services in a mass merchandise market.
Life is good.
