How We Got Started

Thomas Stafford, owner of Superior Life Support, was born and raised in Southern California. His career first began as an Emergency Medical Technician for several different ambulance companies from 1979 until 1986. In 1986, Thomas was hired by the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) as a Paramedic. Later in his career he was trained as a Firefighter and worked as a dual function Firefighter/Paramedic, Emergency Dispatcher, Quality Improvement Analyst, Fire Inspector, Fire Captain and Paramedic Training Officer.

Now retired after 31 years of service in LAFD, Thomas devotes his efforts through Superior Life Support, which is focused on training and empowering the public, first responders and many more. Thomas created Superior Life Support (SLS) in 2004 as a CPR Instructor through the AHA and has continued to grow ever since. Superior Life Support is the largest entrepreneurial training center in the nation, with 700 instructors who train approximately 100,000 people per year.

I am not too sure, but I've never heard of such a method. Wish I could be of more help there. Good luck. (more) I am not too sure, but I've never heard of such a method. Wish I could be of more help there. Good luck.

We do, however it is very specific to our company's target audience, "Enrollware." However, in conjunction with all my software, I use Salesforce to coordinate and speak to all the separate programs I use. This works really well. How do you prefer to begin conversations?

An award, certificate, or accomplishment. They will feel elated that you recognize their "feel good" item out of all the things they list in their experience. In my experience, every interviewer wants information on all the jobs and tend to shy away from those things. So highlighting a accomplishment/achievement makes the interviewee feel appreciated. They will lower their mental guard. Make sure you make the conversation relaxed and open. Once you have this dialog more open and comfortable for them, ask a simple question, "This is going to sound funny, but what is your favorite animal?" Say it with relaxed body language and a smile on your face. They will likely be very honest. Once they answer, regain your "interviewer body language" and follow it up with, "Oh wow, how interesting...Why?" This will actually give you insight as to how they view themselves, or want to be viewed by others. It is very valuable and will give you a true understanding on so many fronts. Most times they will pick strong, powerful animals, lions, tigers, bears...but, sometimes they say squirrel(I did) or pigeon, or who knows. The idea here is to make them think you are asking a silly question, when truthfully, you are getting a peak behind the curtain! When I said squirrel, the interviewer laughed, asked why, I started to sweat and realized what I walked into, but quickly thought of the positive attributes of the animal I decided to share. I landed the job and later found out the ins and outs behind it. Good luck!!!

We have "key chain pocket masks" for CPR, that are relatively inexpensive cost wise. We offer those as "loss leaders" to get people invested in taking a class. It saves them from spending money out of pocket and ties back into what we do. Pens with your company logo/info are always good as a lot of people will use them. The message I am relaying is, make it a low cost item that relates to, or has your company info attached. It's a double edged sword, its advertising for you, and helpful to the customer. If you Google promotional items, there are many companies with options to fit really any business.

I have found that if I give a 30 second or less overview and then being ready to listen and answer/ask relevant questions works like magic. Everybody has their own radio station, "WIIFM" (Whats In It For Me), and as long as they can see that you want to help and work with them, the results are typically excellent. If your conversation only points back at you, and not them, you will likely have an acquaintance rather than a networked partnership. You never get a second chance to make a first impression, and that is so true!

You should expect exactly what you pay for. In any sales, there are Wal-Mart buyers, and there are Whole Foods buyers. Cheap isn't always the best, but the most expensive isn't either. I would want to make sure that the technical jargon they use is easy for me to understand and translate into lay-person verbiage. Stray from hourly work, and look for contract, line item bids, this way, you know you will get it done, regardless of time spent. In terms of results, make sure everything is in writing, and hold them to their word.
