I would do the following:
- try and see whether there are any differences in the quote. From my experience there usually are differences - such as what is included and what is not, term (if it is service related), support, etc.
- see whether your competitor and you are of difference licensing and responsibility standards. As an example IXICA is a licensed facilities based telecommunications provider. We own our telecom network. Most competitors are resellers from companies such as IXICA. Customers usually like to deal with us as opposed to resellers (unless of course the reseller is one of ours, in which case best to let the customer go with competition)
- if all that fails, it is best to walk away. This has happened many times in my experience where the competitive quote was ridiculously low and I just told the customer to go with the competitor. Usually within a year they are back because they did not like the service for some reason.
Pricing is a very important aspect of business. Once you start to sell below a reasonable threshold, quality of service, response, support etc starts to degrade.
Maintaining a quality of service is better long run than being the cheapest and getting every customer.
