However, if you could come up with secondary products to create repeat sales, even if it is small items. This would develop a longer relationship between you and your current customers giving you more opportunities to ask for referrals and to build a closer relationship with your current customers making it easier to get referrals. I believe you are correct, a one time sale, a one time job and no need for your services any longer is making it difficult to even ask for referrals...
I believe a secondary follow up product is the answer...
