I think one of the most important things I can say is education...Let people know the facts about pet ownership. Promote those ideas like....Don't leave your pets outside unattended. The heat, coyotes, and many other adverse conditions threaten your pets' welfare. Don't chain your dog up outside ever. Dogs are pack animals, and the reason they bark and yelp is because they want to be with their pack, their owner, their people, other pets. It's their instinctual nature and they don't want to be alone outside. Many breeds of animals have been domesticated and need to be part of the family. If you don't have the time, energy or enthusiasm for a pet then it's best not to have one. Think long and hard before getting one, and if you do decide to let go of your pet, PLEASE do it safely. Don't look on Craigslist for a home. There are plenty of caring shelters and rescues that will assist you in finding a safe and happy home for your pet. Make sure you choose a pet according to your lifestyle, not by what's popular at the time. That's how shelters fill up with unwanted animals today. I hope this is helpful.
This is an awesome opportunity.
