We research, keep up but we don’t play the incremental.  Our products for our firms are so good even if free the competition would never go back.   Our comparisons are the sale, the demo is the irrefutable hook.  (more) We research, keep up but we don’t play the incremental.  Our products for our firms are so good even if free the competition would never go back.   Our comparisons are the sale, the demo is the irrefutable hook.

What’s funny is after doing research we’ve been using this approach for decades in our own adhoc way by assembling boards of advisors that combine (different from a regular board) folks with highly varied experiences germane to the startup or small firm. From the functional to the market ecosystem to the supply chain and outside competitive firms.   Indeed, this is the key to what we call Adaptive Innovation. If it’s not done continuously, persistently across all influences obviously and not so, you may be blindsided by the unexpected due a simple lack of holistic awareness.   The hard part with simply a group of startups or small firms involves hanging with folks whose experience may not be germane and whose recommendations for the inexperienced may sound great and indeed be a business killer.   Lastly - those firms hawking this, charging money, often pull in “experts” who’ve succeeded only once and or in a lucky, inappropiate way. Run from the single successes or the wrong industry folks. They could kill you.  Hope this helps.

Yes, but education is not always formal - experience by doing as well as through networking can be powerful.  In other words, constantly, persistently exposing one’s self to the entire ecosystem you live in but also beyond attunes one to better servicing one’s world.   (more) Yes, but education is not always formal - experience by doing as well as through networking can be powerful.  In other words, constantly, persistently exposing one’s self to the entire ecosystem you live in but also beyond attunes one to better servicing one’s world.

A question I ask - this is active, actually - so a challenge: I hand them six straws, sticks, all of the same length.   I ask them to arrange them such that each stick, only at the ends, touches only two other sticks only at both ends.   Most try to do this in two dimensions - their paradigm - but a rare few unless you've just read this, go into three dimensions, making a triangle base and then connection the other three from that triable into a pyramid... That's someone who can think out of the box so to speak...

Beyond reviews and recommendations, it's experience in our market and our business size.  Do not want to be the big customer nor the smallest.  I'm looking for long term, deep experience, often again, in our overall market. First, you must define you're firms principles and ethics.  Then, determine the questions to ask, the indicative behaviors and the like that evidence a match or not.  That alone makes a huge difference. What do you mean?   Legally, a new name, a brand must make sure it's not taken in its space legally. Then there is imaging clearance as well...also a legal need. Otherwise you could get sued and or have nom protection on your own brand IP. (more) What do you mean?   Legally, a new name, a brand must make sure it's not taken in its space legally.
