How We Got Started

After 20+ years in the database marketing industry working for large corporations like Equifax and Epsilon supporting giant marketers like Proctor & Gamble, Whirlpool, and Eddie Bauer, applying my experience and knowledge to the mountain resort community was a refreshing change of pace and lifestyle!

Jumping into Imagine That Creative, a marketing agency out of Frisco for 3 years, I came to appreciate the challenges for local businesses marketing both to locals and to visitors.

When Imagine That sold and closed up in 2019, my clients who I had come to love and support asked if I'd continue helping them with their marketing. That's when Digital 970 was born, and it's been a fabulous journey working with a wide variety of personalities, verticals, and marketing successes. I love helping clients stay focused on their business tasks while helping them put out a clean, professional image in the digital marketing space, streamline their operations online, and manage change and growth!

(more) The easiest first steps are to create a business Facebook page and a Google My Business account. Post to these often and learn the nuances of what drives more responses (likes, comments, shares) from your followers. Use all their free tools including creating offers, post links to your menu/products, action buttons (buy now, read more, sign up), and of course be SURE all your business contact information is clear and consistent. Respond to reviews on both platforms, both good and bad. Learn on YouTube or one of the many other sites that offer free advice on best practices for these two platforms and just stick with that for a while.  As far as images for posts, avoid using stock photography, and only use good quality images that can be edited right on your smartphone (cropped, more light, more color). Vary your posts across categories like behind the scenes, special offers, educational, informational, fun and silly, pets/kids, article shares, coming soon, staff/team, customer feedback/reviews, community, partnerships, awards, memberships. If you want to get fancier, learn Canva to create great posts. Learn the art of CTA's - calls to action. People SCAN posts and articles, they don't really read them, so use bullets, concise writing, and highlight the call to action using bold type or buttons. Put the most important information at the top or your website page and your posts.  If you can master these two digital platforms for your business over time, you'll be in the game and can move on to more advanced digital marketing. Of course, if you're in a hurry, hire a digital agency or digital expert to get you moving faster and be really clear about your goals and share the personality of your business so they can represent you appropriately.

Videos in general get significantly more views and engagement than about anything else. The key is to include a CTA (call to action such as a website to click, a phone number to call, etc.). Good luck! (more) Videos in general get significantly more views and engagement than about anything else. This is a great reason to build up social followers, a strong email list, and other methods where your customers and prospects are used to seeing you. Other considerations include the length of the sale (1 day or 1 month?), the value of the sale (what can I afford to spend to get a sale customer?),  and the type of product (a house requires different marketing tactics than toothpaste).  Here are the choices for consideration:  Newspaper print ads, inserts, wrap-arounds Radio spots (including pandora, spotify, etc.) Television ads (targeted geographically when appropriate) Outbound email to a subscriber/buyer list Facebook posts and paid ads to a targeted or look-alike audience (including messenger) Instagram posts and paid ads  Twitter posts and paid ads YouTube (video for followers, paid pre-roll) Text Messaging LinkedIn (for business to business primarily) posts and paid ads Retail Me Not and other sale/discount sites Digital banner ads (Google, ad networks, retargeting, etc.) Your website Google My Business posts Other print or outside advertising (flyers, signs, banners, bus wraps, balloons) Direct mail (think Bed Bath & Beyond postcards) Partner marketing (through vendor channels, events, cross-promotion, etc.) Call me if you want some guidance and help to launch your promotion!
