Without a doubt it has done harm, without paying sales tax it has put us at a 7% disadvantage right from the start. I know consumers should pay sales tax but how often does it happen. I'm amazed that the states don't enforce this and go after these companies and hold them responsible for the taxes. Another way it has hurt us is consumers purchasing so many products off the internet has hurt retail businesses abroad (Toys R Us) for instance. We've remodeled over 50 in the past, now with their sales down we haven't done a remodel in a few years. It goes right down the line, many of these online companies have no overhead, how can you compete with that, local jobs are lost, construction of new projects are gone, tax revenue for the states are lost. Thank you, this is a great question.
