I think now, more than ever, we have to work together. The event planning industry, of which I am a part, is basically being devastated by this epidemic. It's important for those of us that can help others in the business, either with advice, insights, connections, or even just words of support...whatever it is we can offer. We need to reach out to each other and let others know that we are not alone, that we are all being impacted, and that the most important thing is that we share this rollercoaster ride together. The ride is less daunting when there is a whole carload screaming than just one rider in the front hanging on for dear life.
If you are starting out in the biz, whatever your biz might be, it's good to find a mentor. Someone you admire or does work that inspires you. I personally started mentoring other children's party planners 15 years ago and found those connections fascinating, I often learn as much if not more...

If you are starting out in the biz, whatever your biz might be, it's good to find a mentor. Someone you admire or does work that inspires you. I personally started mentoring other children's party planners 15 years ago and found those connections fascinating, I often learn as much if not more from them. As you start your business, whatever it is, it helps to create a core group of like oriented people. This takes time and energy, but it is worth the commitment.
For me - for advice, I start with my mentor, then my core group, then an internet search, and if that doesn't yield the information I need, I go back to my mentor or core group and see if they have a professional that they recommend.
In our business, we are doing over 300 events each year, but for our client, it's their one and only event. We try and treat each client like they are the only one we have on the books...I'm not saying it's easy, but if you can give each client personal attention it goes a long way. Remembering...

Remembering someone's name at an event is also very important. We try to learn every child's name so that we can address them individually.

Going the extra mile with a smile. Clients these days ask for a good number of things last minute. Being able to fulfill those needs definitely creates a strong bond. Also listening to your clients - sure sometimes their requests or ideas are outrageous but in there, there is usually a kernel of an idea in which you can sink your hooks. As long as you can come up with a way to include or accent your client's ideas it makes them feel included.
