Just call, network, doorknock etc. and introduce yourself and let them know that you're open for business and looking for new clients.  Speak / Teach / Facilitate. Get in front of audiences and share your professional expertise - talk about taxes, cash flow management, financial analysis, etc. Join an association or reach out to business groups - BNI, chambers of commerce, business improvement associations, etc.  Get their contact information and keep in touch with them. Email/phone/social media/Alignable, etc. Connect with them and provide useful information. Over time they will remember you and your expertise.

If you already have clients then look for ways to increase repeat purchases, services sold, advisory services, generating positive reviews, client case studies, and referrals. New business from new clients - There's a number of ways to attract new clients, but it's important to keep in mind that generating business leads is different for professionals than it is for other businesses. Don't look for a quick sale, and don't even consider anything that could tarnish your professional reputation.  Our focus is generating business growth for accounting firms. Put yourself in the customer's shoes - what other options does the customer have to meet their needs apart from your business? Once you've identified the other options, review each of them to understand what they offer, and why the customer would consider it versus yours. Pricing, convenience, service, quality, etc. After you've identified the competitors, what their features and benefits are, develop your own value proposition. Identify how your business / product / service provides value to the customer, and in which ways is it unique from competitors? Lastly, distill your value proposition into 3 essential elements: Financial or quantifiable value Business or strategic value  Personal value (how does your business / product / service make life easier for the person) Once you've done the above, repeat your messaging repeatedly and in different ways. You don't need to be everywhere your competitors are, but make sure you show up. Pick one platform or medium that you think is most important to your customer, and spend your time and effort to dominate it versus your competitors. Stand out from the competition and you will win more local business owners as clients.

(more) If you're selling professional or financial services to local businesses, you should approach your marketing by first answering the following questions: What's the customer's pain? How can you fix their pain? Why should they trust that you can fix their pain? Where can they get a hold of you? Answer the above questions before you do anything else. Once you've answered the above, then think through how you can get this message out. Online To start with, you want to have a strong local online presence. This includes Local search + Google My Business + Bing for Businesses. Research the keywords and search terms that your customers will search for, and make sure your online presence provides that information. Make sure you have a decent website, and that you and your business have local listings and social media accounts. Connect with and follow other local businesses online.  Referrals and Influencers Also consider who their other trusted business advisors might be. Normally local business owners will have a banker, lawyer, and accountant that they deal with. They may also have a commercial realtor, and commercial insurance agent. Lastly they may belong to local business associations such as chambers of commerce, business improvement associations, BNI groups, etc. Get in touch with these individuals and organizations. Meet with them for coffee and / or lunch. Get to know their businesses and what they do, and let them know what you do, what makes you different, and the types of customers you deal with. At associations, look for opportunities to speak as a subject matter expert.  Reach out Make sure your business is visible, but don't hesitate to either pick up the phone or drop by other local businesses to say hello. Don't make it a sales call, just drop in and say you're new in the area and would like to introduce yourself. Leave a brochure and some cards.  Getting attention and building relationships takes time. Stay at it, be professional and helpful, and you'll start to see your business grow and thrive.
