In 2001 Jesse and Petra Hansen started out in a log house across from the train depot n Hill City, SD. A full service sales, service, rental and tour shop. Most of our income came from bike rentals, hitting 65 rentals a day on top of tours and running small shop. Realizing we maxed out that market we moved to our hometown, Spearfish in 2003 and never looked back.
Our goal the entire time has not only been to provide excellent service, but to take an obscure elitist sport like cycling popular for the masses to enjoy. Looking back, there has been some success here. Rushmore bikes poured in lots of resources into that goal. Whether it was of the thousands of 7am meetings, prodding, guiding, and assisting leaders with cycling byways, hauling busloads of school kids into the hills for their first downhill ride, starting and maintaining the snow biking system, or working with thousands of first time bikers to get them going their first few years. Its been fun!
