-do as much homework as you can about the service you are going to do. start to put together a business plan, make sure you are charging the right amount to get some profit. start your systems, get a good team together for your bookkeeping, lawyer, etc.
Sitting with a bookkeeper(knowlegable and experienced ) to help you figure out all your expenses and so on could save you a lot of time and money. Don't sell yourself short. don't underbid your competors to get the job. It makes bad relations.
Do great work, be knowledgeable, be honest, you'll get a good reputation

go to all the craft fairs and town farmers markets xmas bazars etc. and on facebook with lots of pictures and happy customers. Dress them up in rooms that would look good with the shade. get creative with what you could use with the lampshade.
