Mandi King considers herself a realistic idealist, navigating life’s complexities with a blend of empathy and humor. She lives both the philosophical and physical aspects of Yoga on land traditionally acknowledged as Yankton and Očhéthi Šakówiŋ, which is now known as Spencer, IA. As a wife and mother of two sons, she finds joy in her family, including her boxer, Ursa, walking, reading, listening to indie music, and attending concerts.
With a personal Yoga practice spanning over two decades, Mandi began teaching eight years ago, considering herself a student first and foremost. Mandi has a moxie for movement and, with a Master's degree in English Literature, a profound interest in the ethical theory of Yoga philosophy found in Patañjali’s Yoga Sūtra, the Katha Upaniśad, and the Bhagavad Gītā.
Yoga philosophy assists us both in reclaiming our sense of Self from past experiences (and the habits and patterns - samskāras - that come from the internalization of those experiences) and in acting responsibly in relationship to life’s changes, all of which supports current and future functionality.
Mandi holds a Level 2 – 200hr certification with YogaPhilosophy.com, complementing her 200hr E-RYT and YACEP credentials. She teaches regularly in Spencer, Royal, and Milford (at The Shift Healing Arts), leads workshops in the area, and has taught at several local and regional yoga retreats, festivals, and conferences.
