About Us

I have been in the fields of Psychotherapy (PhD in Psychology) and Certified Life Coaching for many years. Not only have I experienced the lives and struggles of thousands of patients and clients. I have studied with some of the greatest leaders in psychological theory of all times. I no longer do any psychotherapy. Life Coaching focuses on the PRESENT CENTERED ISSUES OF MY CLIENTS, and does not explore developmental or historical information.
Working on a sliding fee scale, I use SKYPE to help Life Coaching clients to deal IN THE PRESENT with: Stress Management, Interpersonal Relationships, Dysfunctional Relationships in current behaviors only, Self Esteem, Self Confidence, Career Dissatisfaction and the Processes of Getting or Changing a Career, Disabilities, Grief Process, Overcoming Feeling Stuck, Decision Making, Post Recovery Adjustments and Family Life Education.

How We Got Started

I retired from being a full time psychotherapist but quickly became bored with retired life, so I took training in Life Coaching (ICF) and was Certified in 2011. I love my work and helping people be more successful and content in their lives. Also, Coaching only takes a few months to reach goals whereas in depth therapy took years.

(more)     During a ten year span of time, I suffered a great many losses.  I have always recovered from losses to help others and I still do this today.     In 1981,  I was a psychotherapist with a private practice and getting a PhD in psychology but before I finished my dissertation, I was struck by a tractor trailer truck while crossing a street in Ridgefield.  My right foot was turned around backward and had the heel torn off but my left leg was amputated below the knee.  I spent 4 months between two hospitals where the right foot was realigned immediately following the accident (12 hours of surgery using veins as new arteries to maintain good blood flow to the foot.  The left leg was trimmed down due to infection in the muscles of the amputated leg.  Due to all of the injuries, my doctor told me that I would probably never walk again.     When I was discharged from the hospital with an artificial leg but no ability to bend my right foot to a proper angle for walking, I refused to remain a cripple.  Instead, I got a visiting physical therapist to visit my home and help me get up to using the foot and forcing it down to a near right angle.  In the meantime, I continued to see patients from my wheelchair using a ramp that was built by a friendly neighbor who had been in the Marine Corps.  He was a good friend and built a very sturdy ramp that was just the correct pitch for getting to my office which was a separate room in the garage next to the house.     After another two months of physical therapy, I went to a meeting of the 52 Association organization held at Stratton Mt Vermont, the ski resort.  There, I learned to ski again using outriggers (skis attached to crutches) and two regular skis.  Eventually, despite the warning of my doctor, I was not only walking, but skiing on slopes all over upper New York and Vermont sponsored by the 52 Association and also local slopes in New York State whenever possible.  Some people tell the joke, “Dr.. will I be able to play piano after my operation ?”  “ I don’t see why not,” says the Doctor.  “Because, I never played piano before.” Hee.  Well, in my case, I was a lousy intermediate skier before my accident but I became a terrific, back diamond skier using two poles and two skis and entered down hill slalom races in Nastar competition along with regular skiers and won gold and silver medals at places like Greek Peak.  I was unstoppable.     I brought my achievements into my work with others in psychotherapy.  I finished my doctoral dissertation and my studies with Dr Laura Perls in New York City over the following year and was granted my PhD after my oral boards were completed in 1982.  I cried on the way home from my orals not because I had achieved something wonderful but because, my studies at Union Institute were finished and I had to stop one of the most exciting adventures in education available to me:  the ability to study at several colleges and institutions of higher learning and have the credits transferred to Union.  I received my degree in Cleveland, Ohio in 1982.      Also in 1982, I attended Bridgeport Univ. to study as an EMT.  I took the training and over the next 22 years was an EMT licensed in my state.  I frequently stopped at accidents and served several EMS organizations during that time.  I became an EMT so I could give back to others what had been giving to me on that fateful day in June when I was struck by the truck and lay amputated in the road.  My life was saved by off-duty EMTs before the ambulance arrived.  My survival was nothing short of a miracle.     In 1986, part of that ten year span of time, I was diagnosed with a form of lymphatic cancer and had to immediately enter treatment or risk dying within three months according to my oncologist.  After having a retroperotineal surgery to remove lymph nodes and being sewed back up, I was talking with my mother about being in the hospital.  I told her I had cancer but didn’t go into any prognosis.  Rather, I spoke very positively about my treatment and intended recovery.  Following that conversation, mom hung up and died of CHF sitting in her favorite chair in the dining room / bedroom in her house.  I went to Derby to see to her arrangements and do the eulogy over my dear mother’s grave then returned to the hospital to grieve and further my treatment.  After a horrible time in the hospital on chemotherapy, and using a regimen of mentally fighting the cancer with imagery (an idea I got from Bernie Segel at Yale), I was finally proclaimed free of cancer after 3 months of total treatments.  I was discharged and came home with a weight of 130 lbs (I normally weigh 210-220 lbs).       Following my recuperation in the next few years, I started doing Scuba diving through PADI.  I eventually became a Master Scuba Diver Trainer for the same organization.  I did Scuba diving all through the early 2000s and taught the Emergency First Response course and the NSC First Aid / CPR / AED Course throughout 2018.      In the early turn of the century years I started studying karate and was after a number of intense years of study promoted to black belt in Isshinryu Karate Do.  I had studied with a number of masters and had achieved this distinction through Sensei Advincula.  By 2015, I was a Rokudan in Isshinryu Karate and running my own dojo.  I competed in normal competitions and won a number of first and even a few grand champion trophies.     In 2011, I retired as a psychotherapist but then I took training as a Certified Life Coach and set up my online practice in Coaching. I see clients via Skype which is as good as seeing people in person in an office. Technology makes this possible. Like everything I’ve ever done, i put all my effort into helping others and being here for their life coaching needs.     On Jan 1, 2019, I entered Stamford Hospital with pneumonia.  I spent the next two months in the hospital and my apartment was lost due to a conflict i had with the man who sublet to me.  Therefore, having spent two months in bed and having weakened muscles, I went to St Camillus rehabilitation center in Stamford.  Finishing my rehabilitation, I am unable to return to an apartment and so I became a resident here at St Camillus with other chronic care patients.  It has been six months since I first went to the hospital and it may be many months before I return to living in an apartment again.     In the meantime, I am available to my clients whom I see via Skype from within St Camillus.  I am perfectly capable of doing my job despite my long lifetime of difficulty and tragedy. In fact, i can use my response to set backs and my overcoming them all as inspiration once again with clients in the same way I helped patients in the past.  This is my story.

(more) I was a psychotherapist for 39 years before retirement.  After several months, I became very bored with retirement but no longer wanted to do office-visit therapy with others, so I made a lateral move to a field not unlike therapy except that I now work with non-clinical clients.  In this capacity, I can use specially designed and tools created for teaching the skill sets necessary for individuals who have any present problems (stress, self-confidence, self esteem, career decisions (including job hunting, resumes and interview coaching), family issues from a strictly educational prospective, disability, any issues that are not achieving success because of thoughts and feelings which keep a person stuck in their issues without seeing other approaches to problem solving.   Life Coaching is actually an educational process that trains people to achieve goals through learning new skill sets.  It takes far less time for clients to learn and use these skill sets than to work on life-long issues that require clinical intervention and remediate and yet it gives me an occupation that allows me to continue to help others stuck in the morass of indecision or going from goals to the steps of reaching realistic achievements utilizing new methologies.  I love my work as I have always helped others have contentful, happier and stress free lives.
