After graduating from UNC-Chapel Hill with a degree in Economics in 1976, David Parker decided to follow in his father (W. Carey Parker I)'s footsteps to Carolina Law School. In 1979, David was hired by H.W. ("Butch") Zimmerman to work in Statesville as an Assistant DA. After 2 years as an ADA, David joined what later became Pope, McMillan, Gourley, Kutteh & Parker in Statesville from 1981-1991 when David started his own law practice.. Later in 1991, US Senator Terry Sanford hired David to manage his 1992 Re-Election Campaign. Thereafter,, David returned to the practice of law in Statesville, expanding to Mooresville in 2005 with his work as General Counsel for Langtree Properties in the development of Langtree at the Lake and The Osprey apartments on Lake Norman,
