About Us

Susie Q’s Kids, Love in a bag program, led by Dr. Mary Welsh, is a trusted 501(c)(3) nonprofit providing comfort bags to children in need and creating meaningful engagement opportunities for youth, businesses, and community partners.

Through our nonprofit partnerships, Susie Q’s Kids has helped bring comfort and smiles to more than 20,000 children and young adults—each one supported by a caring community.

We provide thoughtfully assembled comfort bags filled with items such as panda bears, blankets, activities, hygiene, and sensory supports. These bags are shared through trusted nonprofit partners who deliver our bags, including hospitals, shelters, foster care agencies, grief centers, schools, advocacy organizations, and first responders—wherever there is a need. Our role is to offer comfort and smiles in moments that feel overwhelming, while our nonprofit partners provide the ongoing resources, professional care, hope, and healing that help children and families move forward.

Rooted in our Kids Helping Kids mission, we bring neighbors, youth, schools, businesses, and community partners together to serve side by side. Every comfort bag represents a relationship—built on trust, compassion, and the belief that no child should feel alone.

How We Got Started

Susie Q’s Kids was founded in honor of Susie McBride-Welsh, whose love for children and giving back continues to guide our mission. Having spent significant time in hospitals, Susie understood the power of small comforts—a stuffed animal, a blanket, or a thoughtful activity—during overwhelming moments. That understanding became the foundation of our comfort bags, which are thoughtfully tailored to meet the needs of children served by our nonprofit partners.

Susie Q’s Kids partners with businesses, nonprofits, and communities to deliver comfort to children in need while creating meaningful employee and youth engagement opportunities. Our work combines compassion with collaboration, making it easy for organizations to create visible local impact.

Trusted by nonprofit partners across Southeast Michigan.

However, it is the networking and connecting with nonprofits, service groups, chambers, networking groups, businesses, schools, and kids to make it all happen. Authenticity is the key, to being able to actively listen to others, share our story, make connections and possibilities happen, and engage businesses, individuals, and kids in service to strengthen our community, support other nonprofits, and bless children with comfort bags of hope and healing.   Without authenticity, the magic of collaboration and caring would be lost. How authentic are you?

The connectivity of talented people looking to connect during this contest is amplified exponentially.  Keep connecting and growing your sphere and remember to refer them to others and/or actively listen as you might be just the smile they need.  Susie Q's Kids, our motto is to "Become a Smile Maker!"

I would be greatly appreciative of potential recognition this year if selected.   Thanks, everyone for the time invested in furthering your personal alliance and those of your acquaintances.  If you have a vote left, I would be appreciative of it and any testimonials provided. I love reading each one!
