Catherine,
That is a good start to price based on how long a job will take to complete. Why are you or do you need to give any sort of discount?
Look at your operational costs that include a minimum profit for you to grow and be successful. I suggest you get with your bookkeeper or accountant to arrive at those costs. Then I would look at your market to make sure you are competitive.
You mentioned charging by the hour. I highly recommend not doing that as you are limited by the hours in the day. You will not have much upside if you have a win in managing your job costs. While you may not lose, it is tougher to make money at the rate you would have to charge to recover overhead and make a profit by just billing hours. I would focus on the management and training of your crews to be more efficient and therefore be able to keep more of the money you have earned.
To get more advice and help you can network with other landscape professionals by joining industry specific groups such as the National Association of Landscape Professionals (NALP) to help in all aspects of your business. They have a program called Trailblazers which can be very helpful.
Hope that helps.
Best
