The Connecticut Burns Care Foundation (CBCF) seeks your support to help fund The Arthur C. Luf Children’s Burn Camp which offers young burn survivors ages 8 to 18 “the freedom to be a kid”. CBCF offers this camp experience to these children free of charge, the average cost per child is $2500.

Since its inception in 1978, the mission of CBCF is to help burn survivors - especially children with severe burn injuries who were very dear to the heart of our founder. In 1991 The Arthur C. Luf Children’s Burn Camp was formed to address a critical need to help children recover and cope with the emotional and physical challenges that they encounter because of their life changing burn injuries. The Arthur C. Luf Children’s Burn Camp serves children worldwide – no child is turned away.

The compassionate and non-invasive atmosphere at Burn Camp is highly effective in helping children cope with the psychological and physical impact of burn injuries. Young burn survivors often stand out and, in some cases, are bullied in their schools and communities because of their visible scarring. At The Arthur C. Luf Children’s Burn Camp all the campers are on an equal footing, treated with respect and encouraged to push themselves beyond their perceived physical and psychological limitations.

Our counselors are deliberately selected from the burn community: firefighters, burn unit medical professionals, burn survivors and former campers. They have a very good understanding of the challenges that face these children. Through positive reinforcement and mentoring, counselors help children learn to cope with and overcome their challenges. They realize that it is possible to live productive lives despite their injuries.
