An abrupt change in direction is usually brought about by a significant external change, therefore it is risky especially if you have to make the change. If it's something you have been wanting to do and your working situation is stable, then you have the luxury of taking the time to research and analyze more fully before committing. Make sure you have exhausted all options before taking such drastic action and talk it over with both colleagues, friends, family and professionals. If you are committed to the change then review the following steps as an action plan:
Firstly you should ensure that you and the prospective Company are a good fit. Review Salary, Benefits, Pension, relocation expenses and Corporate culture if possible.
Short and Long term goals - Document your goals and determine how this change will affect them. Will your quality of life be better by making the change?
Business-like approach - Analyze your financial situation - your current Net Worth, cash flow statement and balance sheet and emergency funds. Can you afford to make a change, for how long and what is your plan "B" if it doesn't work out in 12 months?
Moving is deemed one of the most stressful personal experiences - If you move: Assess the housing, transportation, education and other cost of living items in your new location. Assess the social impact on you of moving away from friends, family, social conveniences you have got used to in your current environment and on your family, without a social support system. Assess local factors - weather, schools, restaurants, medical resources, churches and ethnic factors.
After these steps you can assure yourself that you have done your due diligence.

Greetings,
By virtue of asking the question, I would suggest that you need help. If you were to take a weekend trip you might just go to Niagara Falls for the weekend. However, if you were to take a trip around the world, for 3 months, I think you might contact a travel agent professional to sit with you and chat about your interests, age, who's going with you and other things to customize your trip to make sure you enjoy it without nasty surprises.
Similar to a trip, if you inherited $1,000 you could manage that yourself. If you inherited a life changing amount, then you should contact a trusted Financial planner to present a plan that is customized to your needs. taking into consideration all the facts about your lifestyle, age, social situation and tax situation. You wouldn't do Dental Surgery on yourself, you would go to a trusted Dentist. Good luck!
