How would you handle being scammed by an event promoter? Any tips or advice?

Let the promoter know if you're not compensated in some way, you will go to the newspapers, radio, TV and write their wrong doings on the web, and/or see a lawyer. Real promoters don't like negative publicity.

I agree with Jodie, making your complaint public without a legal decision from the court, may result in your being sued for slander, or defamation. People are being sued nowadays, for even posting a bad review online, so be careful.

I did send a complaint to DC Attorney General.
DC loves taxes, so that was my approach lost tax revenue.
