And please be clear - many of us writing here including me are genuine business owners and no one is paying us to say we are in favor of the PRO Act nor are we doing this because we belong to a group. We just have opinions that support the rights of workers over our own greed.  I think the "independent contractor" label has been terribly misused and keeps too many people in poverty, it has become a trick used by business owners big and small to avoid paying taxes and benefits, sometimes forcing workers on government benefits so it is doubly burdensome on the taxpayers while allowing businesses to reap undue profits. If you can't treat your employees as employees you probably shouldn't be in business.  There is nothing in this bill that prevents you from utilizing genuine independent contractors. This article looks as if it were manufactured by an anti-union lobby group, it is very misleading and inappropriate for an informal chat site.

You absolutely must consult with an immigration lawyer before you take any action. I normally would consult with you but I am away on medical leave. You may want to consult your local bar association or the American Immigration Lawyers Association for referrals, one possible choice in my area is my former firm Maggio & Kattar, 202-483-0053. There are penalties and restrictions associated with visa overstay that you will need to understand.
