I work at the piano with melodic ideas and chord progressions at the same time. Quite often a chord progression inspires the melody. I don't like traditional spelled out chord progressions I prefer implied progressions by giving minimal set of voices in the harmony. I also do my best to find... I don't like traditional spelled out chord progressions I prefer implied progressions by giving minimal set of voices in the harmony. I also do my best to find the best instrument for the melody so that the timbre demonstrates the needed emotion or feeling. But then again it totally depends on the reason. This approach might not work with certain scenes in films but works fine for longer concert works.

Good question. It would have been nice. Somehow the process to doing so eluded me. If you have any leads to open a door in that direction I'd be grateful.
