If payment is still not received by then, we send 3rd notice which states, “Your account is past due. If account is not settled by [insert date], your account will handled by “ABC Collection Agency”. If they still don’t pay, we send it to collections. At that point, 1 of 4 things will happen. 1] they will pay the collection agency the full amount which we receive [less a commission, about 30%]  and ask if they could come back as a client. 2] they will pay the collection agency the full amount which we receive [less a commission, about 30%]  and threaten that they are never coming back as a client. 3] They don’t pay and the collection agency continues to harass them well into the future.  Depending on the situation, sometimes we have the collection agency report their bad behaviour to the credit bureau.  Ocasionally, this delinquent client tries to get a credit card or mortgage and their application is declined because of this bad report. Sometimes the client calls us and wants to pay off their debt and have us remove the bad report from the credit bureau.  Obviously, this client will be lost for the future but we don’t need this type of client. 4]  They don’t pay and threaten us with legal action or reporting us to our professional college or write a bad review on Google.  We make a decision how to handle these clients on a case-by-case basis.  Bottom line, there are plenty of clients who will pay on time and it is better to avoid the clients who make you chase them for money, Long after you have provided the service.
