Where old-world hospitality meets familiar European views, the cuisine reveals an elevated twist on classic Italian and Mediterranean favorites. Chef Haydn Shaak marries classical training with his dedication to local farms and ingredients to craft a truly unique menu inspired by the seasonality of the Upstate. Its beautiful setting is the clear root for the restaurant’s modern, place-driven perspective. It all adds up to an experience that brings people together over tables of authentic, thoughtful food and drink.
George and Rich Hincapie bought the La Bastide property in 2011 and then spent the next several years improving the property to have a more modern feel. All of the many updates to the property design were all in keeping with the rustic modern aesthetic. Integral to the Hincapie brother's plan throughout the process of renovating was keeping the local community involved in as many aspects as possible. The interior design was done by Eric Brown Design from downtown Greenville. All of the artwork throughout the entire property is provided by local artists. Restaurant 17 features many works from Matt Baumgartner and Elizabeth Kinney while our rooms feature some interesting pieces from Paul Yanko. Executive Chef Haydn Shaak & Food and Beverage Director Danielle Nance believe in farm to table freshness while supporting sustainably and ethically sourced ingredients, the majority of which come from around a dozen farms here in the Upstate and western North Carolina.
