We have on staff a GIA Graduate Gemologist, a Northern Michigan Metalsmithing & Jewelry Design graduate and a world-renowned award-winning hand engraver. We have yet to meet a challenge we can’t surpass. Always taking your ideas and wishes into consideration, we are determined to find or make the right piece for you. Almost 80% of the jewelry in our cases is designed and crafted on sight, so you know you will never see the same piece elsewhere.

We can provide you with detailed advice on material and design; draw up the initial drafts, carve a wax model and incorporate your ideas. Custom designed jewelry is our specialty. Recognizing the growing role of computer technology in the jewelry industry, we invested in Matrix jewelry design software. Used by many famous jewelry designers and taught in more than 55 schools and universities, Matrix is the most advanced tool for jewelry design ever developed. We have the tools to design virtual 3-D jewelry on screen and create photo-realistic images of our designs.

We routinely utilize a 3-D printer, giving us the ability to grow a life-size model of your piece for you to try on and wear about the store to get the feel of it before we even get to the metal phase. This gives you the chance to make changes to fit your every desire. All of this equals an end result completely unique to you, you will never see a friend with anything like it.

We offer in-house jewelry repair service. We are one of the few establishments that have a laser micro welding machine. This piece of equipment gives us the ability to fix things that a torch and solder just can’t get to. Using concentrated beams of light, we never have to fear for stones that are unable to take the heat. This means we can do more complicated repairs that others may have to turn away.

We offer financing through Jewelers Reserve. This program offers you an easy avenue to purchase that one of a kind piece for yourself or your loved one. Applying is easy and only takes a few minutes, either online or in the store.

In August 2013, James C Smith Fine Jewelry was honored as the fourth Coolest Small Store in the nation. An award handed out by the jewelry store publication Instore Magazine.
